    Questionable Hardness. Bad batch?

Posted by James on Sep 1st 2024

I bought these Felo bits in April 2024. The set is ideal for the variety of slotted fasteners found all over vintage Land Rovers. I went to remove an (admittedly rusty) fastener yesterday with these bits and the tip exploded rather dramatically right away with only a moderate amount of torque. (Of note, these were not in an impact. I only use bits like this in my Williams ratcheting screwdriver.) Both ends of the slotted shank shot clear off, leaving only the sharp tip in the middle. After putting on eye protection, I tried another bit and it did the exact same thing. It was as if they were hardened, but not tempered. I've never experienced this with a slotted bit— the fasteners always strip out far before you can put any reasonable amount of pressure into it! KC Tool hadn't heard of any other cases like this, so perhaps I just got a bum batch. In any case, they made it right and I ended up buying Wera's BiTorsion bits and Hazet's TiN slotted bits to try next.

    Felo 6pc slotted bits

Very nice little set, the package is red not gray. The bits are hollow ground not tapered so they fit screws much better. This can be used in an impact or drill but best suited for a bit driver. High quality

    Great bit set

I repair a lot of reels as well as guns and these buts are perfect. They don't seem to want to slip.

Great little selection of flathead bits

I think we can all agree, slotted is the WORST, but alas we occasionally gotta use them. This is a fantastic little set to have on hand. I have not yet used in an impact driver, but imagine they would be great at lower torque values.

    clean, simple quality

Absolutely stellar precision, just boringly perfect. Nothing at all off with the packs I've purchased, small defects are common for many other bits I've had. An excellent compliment to any 1/4" toolkit, I've used them with small socket wrenches, bit holding screwdrivers, and drills. Abused one to pry something apart and was pleasantly surprised it held up and did not take any damage.

Very nice machining. Many slotted bits are the right width but too thick

    Felo 31410 Profi Bits

This is a superb assortment of power bits. The bits are very well made, accurately ground, and nicely finished. These bits work well with the FELO smart handle making for an assortment of stubby screwdrivers. The combination works very well where a slotted screw must be placed carefully, such as brass screws in woodworking. Highly recommended.
